Luxury lodge breaking ground

THE FOUNDATIONS have been poured for the newest luxury condo-hotel at Sun Peaks Resort.
Nestled in the heart of Sun Peaks, the first phase of the Kookaburra Lodge, set to open to residents in Feb. 2009, offers 16 affordable residential apartments ranging from one to four bedrooms, plus eight commercial spaces on the ground floor of the building.
The lodge will also play host to a second village tower which will bear tuned cast brass bells that will ring during important community events and occasions.
The upscale suites in the Kookaburra Lodge are designed with more space for overseas guests who plan to spend extended periods of time at Sun Peaks Resort.
“We have identified the need for the resort to have larger, more long-stay apartments for our guests, and the Kookaburra Lodge is a unique product that will compliment the current types of accommodation at Sun Peaks,” says Paul Farrell, director of Kookaburra Lodge Investments.
Kookaburra Lodge is the vision of the Farrell family, who began vacationing in Whistler from Australia 20 years ago.
The Farrell’s purchased property at Sun Peaks 10 years ago and designed and built their own chalet while becoming active members of the Sun Peaks community.
The Kookaburra Lodge was designed and engineered in Australia with support from local engineers in Kamloops and Kelowna. As the project moves into the construction phases, the Farrel family is continuing in their efforts to suppor local companies by hiring contractors primarily from Sun Peaks and Kamloops.
The building is designed with some innovative features to help minimize the impact on the environment.
Cross ventilation and a heat-recovery systems are just a couple of initiatives that will help work towards a green rating for the building. Seventy-five percent of phase one is already sold out and over 50 percent of the purchasers are Australian.
The second phase will be put up for sale later this summer. For more information visit www.kookaburralodge.ca
